Anna Lisa  > Journalism > Info on Anna Lisa Yoder's WinsomeWorks

Welcome to WinsomeWorks, to browse, learn, buy, or see what's new. To find some of my photos mapped on a flat view of the world, choose "Map & Recently Added". To contact me, choose "Guestbook". If buying prints here, it's usually best to choose "Compact Camera Sizes" when choosing sizes, because the cameras I use most often have a less elongated ratio. (For instance, instead of 4x6", you would then receive 4x5.3" prints, and none of the image will be lost). Some of my older photos, such as those from Asia, Haiti, or Italy, work better as standard-sized prints. If you're interested in handmade greeting cards using my SmugMug prints, please go to www.winsomeworks.etsy.com .

I’ve been capturing images that tickle my brain ever since my parents handed me my first camera in 4th grade- a well-loved old Brownie Starflex. My “thing” is lighting—the more natural, the better. Back-lighting and worm’s-eye-views have become near-obsessions. As an art major at Goshen College years ago, the best advice I got there from a favorite professor was to “Play with it!”... sage advice which I still follow today. This may mean lying down in a ditch to see some brown-eyed Susans from below, and there’s the fun. My home is in Quakertown, PA, in the heart of Bucks County-- the "artists' county". I'm in good company when in artistic contortions!

My greatest joy in photography is its way of etching moments in my memory. That singular ray of light or fabulous color which would otherwise get forgotten becomes like an old friend when I process or view the image later. I love to create closeups from odd angles. Captures of momentary rays of natural light such as those just before or after rain, or between the “edge of night & the break of day” (thanks, Kate Wolf!) are present in much of my work as well. Seldom found without a camera, I’ll always be discovering new techniques as well as noticing the next great slant of light in some unique moment in that incredible corner of the world—even my hometown. I never tire of getting others to look up & see what the lens is pointing at. I’ve been blessed by travel and living in various & wonderful corners of the earth such as China, Tibet, Thailand, Nepal, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Haiti, Italy, and Canada. Here in the states, I've so far spent the most time photographing North and South Carolina and Texas. My images come from all of the above as well as my hometown of Quakertown, PA. Thank you again for stopping to see my work! If you'd like to see my own favorites, please choose the "portfolio" tab. I'll be working on scanning my best work from a couple decades of traditional film cameras for the foreseeable future, so please stop back now & then! Don't forget to sign my guestbook! —Anna Lisa
